Ingredients of Namman Muay (Thai Boxing Liniment)

Active ingerdients of Namman Muay are


1. Methyl Salicylate (31% V/V) another name is "oil of wintergreen". The chemical formula is  C8H8O3  or C6H4 (OH) COOCH3

     Methyl Salicylate has a pungent smell, make skin hot and burn when it contact your skin. It's found in many plant species. Plants those has this substance was called "wintergreen". If eating  with high concentration, it would be toxic.
     Randomised double blind trial reviews report evidence of its effectiveness that is weak, but stronger for acute pain than chronic pain, and that effectiveness may be due entirely to counter-irritation.

Usage:
  • Active ingredient in Namman Muay (Thai boxing liniment oil), rubbing oil, muscle relaxant cream.
  • Use in a little bit amount as flavouring.
  • Used to provide fragrance to various products and as an odor-masking agent.

2. Menthol (1%w/v) an organic compound that can synthetic or extract from peppermint or other mint oils. It is a waxy, crystalline substance, clear or white color, which is solid at room temperature and melts slightly above. Menthol has local anesthetic and counterirritant qualities, and it is widely used to relieve minor throat irritation.

     Menthol can trigger the cold-sensitive receptors in the skin so you can feel a cooling sensation when inhaled, eaten, or applied menthol to the skin.

     Menthol's also used widely in analgesic cream, rubbing oil, massage oil including Namman Muay because it's analgesic properties and reducing neural activity that may stimulate muscles.
